Abstract
Ferrous metallurgy with light arc furnaces using conducting slag has working temperatures well over 1500/spl deg/C. An essential parameter for the metallurgy process is the conductivity of the slag at these high temperatures. The precise measurement of the slag conductivity and the temperature in this range is a very demanding task for the mechanical system design as well as for the layout of the electronics. The paper describes the measurement system in mechanical design and in detail the development of the electrical measurement system based on National Instruments data acquisition and Lab View/spl reg/, including data storage on a PC.
