Abstract
The exposure of humans to electromagnetic fields is a problem which gains more and more importance. It is the subject of a wide standardisation work considering as well the field limits as the design of the field sources, apparatus and systems. The paper gives an overview on this work: kinds of effects, kinds of standards, relevant international organisations, and current problems. It considers the whole frequency range 0 HZ to 300 GHz, the different approaches in the different parts of the world, Europe West and East, USA, the technical aspects and the legal consequences. It makes some remarks about future needs.
