Abstract :
This paper is concerned with the implementation of the optimal feedforward control strategy for attenuating broadband disturbance of a two-dimensional structure: a flexible plate. Surface-bonded piezoceramic transducers were used as the disturbance generator and control source. The feedforward controller was designed to minimize the spatial H2 norm of the transfer function from the disturbance signal to the velocity at every point over the plate. This approach ensures the vibration contributed by all the in-bandwidth (0-300Hz) vibration modes is minimized, and hence is capable of minimizing vibration throughout the entire plate. The controller was implemented on a simply supported plate to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller in cancelling global structural vibration. The effectiveness of the spatial feedforward controller was then compared experimentally with that of the standard point-wise controller. Experiment results demonstrated that the spatial feedforward controller is able to reduce the energy transfer from the disturbance to the structural output across the structure.
