Abstract
Engineers are increasingly facing the hard problem of developing more sophisticated real-time systems while time to market and cost constraints are constantly growing. The necessity of adapting object oriented modeling in the real time domain appears to be essential in order to face the rapidly changing market conditions. The main obstacles are the lack of standards and mismatch with real-time needs. This paper presents an object oriented modeling approach to address the deficiencies by considering a typical wireless local loop (WLL) application using real-time UML. However UML is insufficient in areas critical to the development of real-time embedded systems - specifically, timing, concurrency, and hardware/software interfaces. In this paper, UML´s deficiencies have been examined with respect to modeling certain aspects of a system. The role of various diagrams in the requirement analysis, system design and real-time considerations for modeling WLL applications have detailed in the paper.
