Abstract :
This paper presents a cost-balance overlay multicast routing (Cost-Balance) scheme to the tradeoff problem between overlay path delay and access bandwidth at Multicast Server Nodes (MSN) for real-time interactive video over Internet. Cost-Balance scheme implements a dynamic priority to MSNs in these two metrics by weighing the size of its service set and balance overlay path delay and MSN access bandwidth by carefully selecting a ´less MSN-access-bandwidth´ path within minimum delay overlay paths to lessen MSN access bandwidth as much as possible. Simulation experiments demonstrate the scheme achieves a better gain in MSN access bandwidth without a significant increase in the overlay path delay across a range of network configurations, in which for example it decreases MSN access bandwidth by 1.40% and 4.99% with additional 0.57% and 0.32% overlay path delay to the compared scheme in 600-node-scale network.
