Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the application of delay diversity in the system compliant to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. In this delay diversity system, we propose a low complexity RAKE-like receiving algorithm to achieve spatial diversity. A joint channel estimation and time synchronization procedure is developed to guarantee full diversity and a double correlation approach immune to large frequency offset is adopted to implement the system at low cost. The performance of the delay diversity receiving (DDR) system with two receive antennas is analyzed through Monte Carlo simulations. Test results indicate that the proposed scheme can provide a SNR gain of 5.5 dB and 4.5 dB respectively for the system in a small and large delay spread environment over the system with single antenna at the PER 1%.
