Abstract
This paper describes effect of designing resonant free power delivery network (PDN) on the performance of voltage regulator modules (VRM) commonly used in microprocessor systems. The performance parameters of the VRM as a result of decoupling capacitors (DECAPS) added at different stages of the PDN to realize the resonant free target impedance is described using the output impedance as a key parameter. Parametric curves and simulation results are presented to support the validity of the design oriented analysis with special emphasis on the performance of the VRM considering voltage sensing for feedback at different stages of the microprocessor PDN
