Abstract
An improvement to the geometrical theory of diffraction (GTD) is developed for determining the high frequency electromagnetic fields near the caustic caused by the curvature of an edge. This work is devoted to the development of a caustic corrected GTD solution for shapes like cones, cylinders and conically capped cylinders. Results are calculated and compared with the method using an individual scattering center approach and GTD and as well as experimental results reported elsewhere. The results are shown to be in excellent agreement in the caustic regions and smoothly reduce to the GTD away from the caustic regions.
