Abstract :
This paper describes a temperature analysis due to core and copper losses in switched reluctance motor (SRM) by using a two dimensional (2-D) coupled field finite element analysis. A phase winding in the FEA model is excited by a coupled electric circuit. An inductance is introduced in the 2-D analysis to account for the 3-D end effects on phase inductance, due to the end windings and axial fringing effects. Standard magnetic and thermal boundary conditions are set up for the model. The model is solved by a cascaded procedure of analysis consisting of coupled electric & magnetic analysis and thermal analysis. The results of the coupled field analysis are presented and compared with the other coupled field analysis procedure consisting of magnetic and thermal alone.
