Abstract :
This paper describes a power system stabiliser utilising energy storage. This is achieved by fast control of the charging and discharging of an energy storage system (ESS) to improve the stability of an electric power system. To demonstrate the capability of the proposed controller, dynamic and transient stability studies have been carried out for a single machine connected to an infinite bus system as well as for an interconnected multi-machine system. The simulation studies have included a detailed model of the generator including its excitation controller and governor, as well as a comprehensive ESS model, including the DC battery model and the switch operation associated with the power converter.
