Abstract :
Wraparound-shielded (WAS) write heads and side-shielded (SS) read heads that can reduce the leakage magnetic field from adjacent tracks have been attracting a lot of attention for high-density recording. In this study, we calculated and measured the relationship between the magnetic read-track width and the write density to examine the SS effect in longitudinal recording. We also calculated the SS effect in perpendicular recording to obtain a better performance.
