Abstract :
A cylindrical SPECT camera with a rotating collimator is being evaluated. 72 PMTs surround a 12 mm thick cylindrical NaI crystal with the diameter of 305 mm and axial height of 180 mm. The data acquisition system consists of 12 modules; each based on a Xilinx FPGA and Texas instrument TMS320C6000 DSP, reporting to a controlling PC via a Firewire network. The high performance of the FPGA and the digital signal processor have permitted a new implementation of the firmware and the pulse processing algorithm. The implementation of the de-centralized read-out system which is based on local environment processing has improved the count rate properties of the system and given an intrinsic spatial resolution of 3 mm (FWHM) at 140 keV.
