Abstract :
A 2.4-2.5 GHz voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) prototype consists of a 0.35 µm CMOS chip mounted on an MCM substrate; the high quality oscillator tank inductor is fabricated on the MCM; the CMOS chip contains the varactor diode and the active elements. The oscillator draws 2mA from a 2.7V supply; the tuning range is 120MHz around a 2.45GHz center frequency. The phase noise is -125dBc/Hz at a 1MHz offset.
