  • Abstract
The semiconductor industry has undergone a significant change in its structure throughout the last decade. Considering the advent of large foundries the future chances of small and medium sized foundries specialised in the production of wafers for mixed signal circuits and associated services are discussed. If the mixed signal business model is developed in a proper way, e.g. not competing in the mainly digital core competence markets of the big foundries but concentrating on specialised niches, such a model will work. For a sustainable growth scenario it is necessary to establish and maintain sufficient differentiation elements, a competitive cost structure and a credible view into a continuous development along the industry roadmap. State of the art manufacturing execution and control system are a must for foundries of any size and scope.
