Abstract :
Wavelength multiplexed photonic components are increasingly attractive in the local area network to alleviate the pressure on capacity and reconfigurability. Recent test-bed studies are presented for short reach, high capacity, reconfigurable networks using broadband photonic components. Intelligent control schemes are presented which leverage wavelength multiplexing for low latency and low complexity. Wavelength striped payloads are efficiently routed with high margin through semiconductor amplifier based switches showing routes to low-loss high-connectivity 100 Gb/s networking solutions.
