Abstract :
This paper presents a study to demonstrate the potential of a spaceborne Ku-band APR (active phase-array radar) - Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) precipitation radar (PR) to monitor snow cover in Tibetan Plateau. A method based on the difference of backscattering from snow covered ground with zenithal/non-zenithal incidence angles was carried out and validated by a second-order RT model. In the end, we use the TRMM/PR data from 2003-01 to 2004-04 to do the snow monitor of several areas in Tibetan Plateau.
