Abstract :
Ferrous metallurgy with light arc furnaces using conducting slag has working temperatures well over 1500 degrees centigrade (1500 /spl deg/C). An essential parameter for the metallurgy process is the conductivity of the slag at these high temperatures. The precise measurement of the slag conductivity and the temperature in this range is a very demanding task for the mechanical design of the measurement system as well as for the layout of the measurement electronics. This paper describes the measurement system in mechanical and electrical design; in detail the specially developed differential measurement amplifiers (milli-volt amplifiers) are shown.
