Abstract
This paper describes a current scheme for handover between wired and wireless networks and examines its limitations, and suggests a new mechanism to perform seamless handover for merging wired and wireless networks. The reason for merging of wired and wireless infrastructures is to deploy the network over a wider area to keep the mobile user in the heterogeneous networks for as long as possible. The novelty of the scheme is to sustain the ongoing services as well as applications during handover across heterogeneous access networks. Implementation and performance evaluation have shown that the proposed scheme is beneficial to maintain its ongoing connectivity seamlessly amongst different access technologies when in motion.
