  • Abstract
The future demand of mobile Internet access in vehicles like busses or trains leads to an integration of ad hoc networks for an efficient and infrastructure-less multihop communication between mobile users. However, for wireless and mobile Internet access an infrastructure is needed which has to support mobility for ubiquitous wireless access. Mobile IPv6 allows mobility support also in combination with ad hoc, e.g., with AODVv6 (ad hoc on-demand distance vector) in future wireless networks. This study outlines the interworking of the mobility protocol mobile IPv6 and the multihop ad hoc routing protocol AODVv6. The integration leads to a mobile IPv6 ad hoc gateway that contains an optimization for vertical handovers between WLAN systems and cellular networks. The optimization is based on link layer information that is used to reduce packet loss during vertical handovers
