Abstract :
In this paper we consider the fundamental advantage of wireless communication - its convenience - and the inevitable problems of spatial dispersion that this gives rise to. We show that MIMO systems, and especially adaptive MIMO systems, can overcome a number of these disadvantages by exploiting the spatial dimension. Especially we note that an adaptive MIMO system can combine the capacity/diversity advantages of MIMO with the benefits of ´smart antenna´ systems in a wireless network.
