  • Abstract
In this paper, we characterize multipath fading channel dynamics at the packet-level and analyze the corresponding data queueing performance in various environments. Based on the pre-computed datasheet obtained from a modified Gans Doppler model, we capture some important packet performance statistics with respect to various wireless network factors such as mobile speed, Rice factor K and channel coding in the presence of Rice fading channel within the NS2 network simulator. The result shows that the simulation of a complete fading envelope is reliable, the first and second order statistics of fading envelope are close to the theory distribution. Furthermore we can get the packet loss ratio in different simulation scenario, which offers a simple and efficient way to carry out a packet-level fading channel model for wireless network protocol testing, mobile computing and wireless video transmission.
