Abstract
The design and optimization of a specific near-field spatial feed using a flared notch radiator as the source element and an array of the same notches as the collector array is presented. This paper summarizes the full 3D electromagnetic modeling of this specific near-field spatial feed, the optimization of this specific feed´s coupling region and finally the experimental testing of the feed. The modeled versus measured data presented will show that spatial feed design data can be accurately obtained through modeling and/or experimentation and that compact near-field spatial feed designs for antenna arrays can be achieved with focal length to aperture diameter ratios (F/D) smaller than 0.5
