Abstract
Although existing SATCOM antennas provide broad pattern coverage, they are still too large heavy and bulky and therefore not quite portable. The solid isotropic material with penalization (SIMP) method is extended here to develop a miniature broadband SATCOM antenna, which at UHF frequencies presents a significant advance in providing portable satellite communications.
