Abstract
In this paper, the effect of the scanning properties of the phased array element and its transfer function is discussed. The element itself (and any radome) must be designed properly to maintain a suitable transfer function for a wideband system. Finally, finite ground plane effects causing surface waves which affect each of the array elements as a function of frequency must also be taken into account.
