Abstract :
The object of this paper is to investigate the effects of laser irradiation of particular characteristics on the growth of wheat. It is known that the respond of plants to light may vary depending on various parameters such as the duration of exposure (photoperiod), intensity, and wavelength of the light. Here, we investigate and compare the effects of two characteristic parameters (i.e. wavelength and power) on the plant growth. We have chosen He-Ne laser producing red light (632 nm) and sunlight as reference. One sample was exposed with red light produced by 5 mw Helium-Neon laser light for 10 minutes each day in particular time of the day providing energy density of 40 mj/cm2. The beam was expanded using a concave lens. The other sample was exposed by normal sunlight with similar condition. After two weeks, the growth of each sample was compared and the one that exposed to laser light was 5 cm taller than the other sample. In next step, the energy density has been invariant but the power was increased and the exposure time was decreased. From our results, it can be seen that two individual parameters, the power and exposure time controlling energy density, must be chosen very carefully and it may have significant effects on the next generation of wheat.
