Abstract :
The effective and principled design of evolutionary optimisers is an important but as yet unresolved issue. This paper makes the case that modern notions of knowledge based systems design may be adapted to provide a useful route to achieving this end. The issues raised will be illustrated with a case study based on a real world problem.
