Abstract :
The Standards Education and Training Committee (SETCom) Chair, Qiubo Ye, was invited by Professor Cui Meng, Nuclear Electronic Laboratory, Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University, in Beijing, China, to give a presentation entitled “Roles of SETCom, EMC Standards, and IEEE EMC-S Standards Development Process” on November 7, 2011. In his presentation, Qiubo started with the IEEE EMC-S organization structure to illustrate that SETCom is one of the Standards committees under the EMC-S VP for Standards. He introduced that the goals of SETCom are to prepare and conduct seminars for Working Groups on the development, coordination, balloting, and support of IEEE EMC standards; enhance the awareness of IEEE EMC standards throughout the EMC community; and demonstrate how these standards can be effectively applied to the development, production and use of equipment and systems. SETCom´s current officers and activities were presented. In the second part of the presentation, he briefly introduced major EMC Standards worldwide including IEEE/ANSI Standards, CISPR/IEC Standards, FCC Regulations, British Standards, and Euro Norms. In the third part, the IEEE EMC Standards Development Process was explained in detail which includes Formation of Working Groups, PAR — Project Authorization Request, Working Group Management, Distribution of Working Group Drafts and Copyrights, Balloting Draft Standards, Appeals, and Following the Publication of a Standard. More than twenty faculty members and graduate students attended this one and an half hour presentation. After the presentation, another half hour was extended for questions and answers and exciting discussion.
