Abstract :
A new concept - chirped-pulse cascade-compression - is proposed and demonstrated. Initial experiments agree with numerical simulations, including compression of 35 fs, 1.2 mJ-pulses to 20 fs. Scaling to higher pulse energies and compression ratios will be possible.
