Abstract :
This paper provides a brief overview of WAP technology and how it has been used in SCADA/telemetry applications over recent years. A practical example is given within British Waterways (BW) where ´smart´ mobile technology is being exploited to improve efficiency and customer service while reducing operational risks. An overview of the development and security issues together with typical operational costs is also presented.
