Abstract :
The relationship of temperature and losses of switched reluctance motor (SRM) to that of inverter-fed induction motor (IM) is introduced at first. A rough loss model for both motors is derived for the purpose of temperature rise calculation. Temperature rises of both motor at different speed are calculated, and the results show that SRM has lower temperature rise in a large speed range. The temperature rises of a commercially manufactured IM and SRM has been measured, which have the identical cooling conditions namely totally enclosed fan-cooled. The experimental results indicate that the models and analysis proposed in the paper is reasonable.
