Abstract :
In this paper a hybrid excitation brushless claw-pole motor is developed to fulfil the special requirements for industrial application, such as high power density, high efficiency, high starting torque and wide operation range. The motor has magnetic fields contributed by both permanent magnet and excitation field winding on brushless claw-pole rotor. The no-load magnetic field of a six-pair poles hybrid excitation brushless claw-pole motor is numerically analyzed by three-dimensional finite element method. The magnetic field distributions in the airgap and rotor of the motor under different DC field currents are visually shown. It is also illustrated that the motor´s airgap flux density can be easily changed by adjusting the field winding current.
