Abstract :
The IEEE 802.16 family of standards embraces a large number of basic and optional features. After a brief description of the key features of the IEEE 802.16 technology, this paper focuses on the adaptive antenna system (AAS), which is an optional feature but one that is expected to provide a significant performance benefit to IEEE 802.16-based networks. In particular, we examine the processing requirement for implementing an AAS in a system based on the orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) physical layer.
