Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to compare competing techniques for wideband channelisation, and to assess the flexibility of each of these methods in the context of software defined radio (SDR) receiver. Particular emphasis is given to very wide band systems and distinction is drawn between architectures where all channels are equally spaced and of equal bandwidth, and those architectures which afford greater flexibility. Consideration is also given to the practicalities of channeliser reconfiguration, and the ability for channels to operate independently of one another. Particular emphasis is given to analysing those architectures that are capable of dealing with wide input bandwidths (hundreds of MHz or more) and large numbers of channels.
