Abstract :
We propose a universal characterization of intra-channel nonlinear effects in multi-span transmission systems by introducing the concept of "nonlinear diffusion bandwidth". We show that transmission lines having identical "nonlinear diffusion bandwidth" generate similar nonlinear degradations.
