Abstract :
We report the generation of a 1 GHz 2.8 ps pedestal-free (suppression 30 dB) optical pulse from a seeded gain-switched semiconductor laser diode (GSL) using a compressing nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (CALM). Preliminary results with a 10 GHz repetition rate source will be also briefly discussed. This source is suitable for multiplexing into 40 Gb/s transmission.
