Abstract :
Most of the engineering projects we look at in this column have one thing in common - a named creator. We know that Captain Manby invented his rocket apparatus; Roald Dahl had a sideline in medical shunt design and we know whose fault the Popovkas were. So I thought this month we might look at one of the great unknown engineers, or rather the many unknown engineers who created one of Britain´s most extraordinary monuments - Maiden Castle.
