Abstract :
All-optical network is the potential candidate for next generation optical networks. In addition to its potential CAPEX and OPEX savings compared with the current OEO type of optical networks, it also imposes significant technical challenges due to its transparency. In this paper, we look into application of the emerging techniques such as electronic equalisation in the transparent optical networks, showing potential benefit of electronic signal processing in improving transmission performance, network simplification and cost reduction
