Abstract :
TDM-based networks developed in metropolitan areas need to evolve in a way to fulfil new emerging requirements and to transport efficiently the growing data-traffic. As a matter of fact, recently, the focus of the DWDM challenge is being extended from developing long-haul point-to-point links to building out flexible automatically switched optical networks. This paper describes the applicability of automatic switching in metropolitan optical networks for the dynamic provisioning of high-capacity links
