Abstract :
We proposed a new pumping scheme on distributed Raman amplifier, which consists of bi-directional 1st order pumping and backward 2nd order pumping over a novel transmission fiber suitable for this scheme. This combination achieved 5 dB OSNR improvement and 5 dB system performance improvement on 40 Gbit/s-based transmission experiment with lower Raman pump powers and practical span loss
