Abstract :
This paper presented simulation and experimental results on the electric field in a coplanar patch antenna (CPA) which was proposed recently, in order to reveal the operation mechanism and confirm the dominant operation mode of the CPA which is considered different from the mode of loop antenna. The antennas under measurement were designed and fabricated at a central frequency of 10 GHz. The simulated field distribution across the slots around the patch in the CPA clearly demonstrated the similarity between the CPA and microstrip patch antenna. The measurement employed a coaxial-probe detection system, which measures the field normal to the antenna plane. The measured results revealed the fields and then the operation mode in CPA. The measured results have good agreement with the simulation and confirmed the concept of coplanar patch.
