Abstract :
This paper studies the 1mm long on-chip meander antenna pairs in silicon up to 107 GHz by experiments as well as modeling. A modeling method based on EM 1E3D simulator as well as a statistical ray tracing model is developed to evaluate the antenna pair´s performance with its S11 and S21 parameters. Simulations results agree with measurements. It shows that a sharp resonance can be seen at 75 GHz on the silicon substrate of high resistivity but no such sharp resonance can be on the silicon substrate of low resistivity. It also shows that a high gain window exists in S21. It suggests that the operating frequency of wireless interconnects be allocated within the high gain window for good performance.
