Abstract
This paper presents an extremely simple phase measurement system for the 3rd-order inter-modulation (IM3) phases of RF power amplifiers. The system can accurately and directly measure the phase distortions of the intermodulation (IM) products as well as fundamental signals in power amplifiers themselves. We also implement a 30 W RF power amplifier with an LDMOSFET in wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) band, and the phase distortions of the main power amplifier are investigated with the phase measurement system under various tone-spacings, gate bias voltages, and output power levels.
