Abstract :
An evaluation in terms of mesh quality and computational savings of a wavelet-based multi-resolution grid for the usage in a wavelet-transformed FDTD scheme is presented. Orthogonal and bi-orthogonal wavelets with compact support have been used for the discrete wavelet transform. It turned out that approximately half of the wavelet coefficients representing the electromagnetic field can be neglected. For most of the examples we investigated, the Haar and Daubechies 4 wavelet yield the smallest error.
