  • Abstract
The finite-volume time-domain (FVTD) method has been applied successfully to a variety of electromagnetic problems. Since FVTD is relatively new in computational electromagnetics, the achievable dynamic range has not been addressed in previous investigations. In this paper, examples of high-end problems are simulated to demonstrate the capability of the FVTD method to obtain accurate results for complex structures even if a high dynamic range is required. FVTD results for low cross-polarization circular horn antennas are presented and compared to other techniques. To demonstrate the potential of FVTD, a highly complex planar spiral antenna with 26 spiral turns and cavity backing is computed and compared to measurements.
