Abstract :
Future wireless systems will need to support multirate traffic. The distribution of traffic influences both the optimal placement of base stations and consequently the system performance. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to solve the multirate-traffic CDMA base station placement problem using a standard binary integer programming (BIP) solver. This approach allows the designer to find optimal base station configurations for a multi-code (MC) CDMA system with the consideration of traffic demand of users, coverage, transmitter power limits and signal-to-interference (SIR) performance. Furthermore, the model can be modified to find the optimal code allocation to the users in an existing system. With the advancement in computing power, proposed model can potentially be used to design practical systems
