Abstract :
A new scheme for alleviating contention in OBS networks is proposed. It consists in doing preventive reservation of resources in the preceding node, to be used if resources are busy on the next hop node. The burst is sent back to the previous node and then resent forward. The offset between the control packet and the burst is calculated taking into account the possibility of using preventive reservation during the burst transmission. Simulations carried out assess the feasibility of the proposed scheme
