Abstract
In this paper, an analytical framework aiming at evaluating the performance, in terms of both buffer occupation and packet delay, for an ARQ-SR protocol application in wireless communications has been proposed. The present analysis involves a general communication channel model including both shadowing and fading effects. In particular, following a hierarchical approach, it has been modeled as a time discrete nested Markov chain. Moreover the traffic source model has been assumed as Markovian. The accurateness of the proposed solution has been validated by means of numerical simulation under several practical scenarios, as far as the physical channel and the traffic model are concerned. In particular, three different traffic models have been taken into account, always highlighting a remarkable accordance between the analytical predictions and numerical results.
