Abstract
This paper presents a method employing the penalty function search algorithm to determine the LC compensator values corresponding to maximum annual reduction in the source losses while constraining the total voltage harmonic distortion and the average power factor. The major attribute of the method is that it, unlike conventional approaches, guarantees convergence to the optimal solution. The contribution of the developed method is demonstrated in examples taken from previous publications
