Abstract
Probabilistic rate control is employed on the reverse link of CDMA2000-1x-EV-DO to provide multi-rate mobile data services. Recently, the performance of this rate control has been investigated in the literature by using simulation as a main tool for the study. However, no work in the literature validates the employed simulation by comparing simulation results to other methods such as analytical models. In fact, there is no analytical model of the probabilistic rate control in the literature. This paper investigates this analytical model and considers the number of mobile stations as an important external factor of the probabilistic rate control algorithms in the model. Simulation for a single cell scenario case is used to validate how accurate the proposed model is. The validation shows that the analytical model can provide the average throughput results closed to the simulation at various numbers of mobile stations
