Abstract :
Resilient packet ring (RPR) is a new technology has just been standardized as IEEE 802.17 for Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN). RPR provides higher bandwidth utilization than other ring technologies. In this paper, we analysed fairness policy based on node and based on flow. The results show that: throughput of RPR can reach 2 times of conventional rings in Balanced "Uniform" traffic pattern using fairness based on node, and a more nearly 2 times using fairness based on flow but with more complexity. We also develop the solution of fairness based on flow. The simulation results match and verify the theoretic analysis
